Felis catus
The Persian cat is one of the oldest cat breeds. It is also known as “longhair” and “Persian Longhair”. The Persian cat originates from Persia, yet there are some from Britain due to interbreeding. A Persian cat has an extremely long thick coat, short legs, a wide head with the ears set far apart, large eyes, and an extremely foreshortened muzzle. The breed was originally established with a short muzzle, but now this feature has become extremely exaggerated, particularly in North America. Persian cats can have many color or markings including pointed, tortoiseshell, blue, and tabby. The point varieties are called Himalayan in the United States. Persian cats need regular grooming because their fur is too long for them to maintain themselves. Persian cats appreciate being bathed regularly, dried thoroughly, and brushed daily. |

Cat Playtime Tip |
|
Cats love Catnip! Many toys contain catnip or a scent. Cats will enjoy chewing the toy and batting it around. Male cats will respond more to catnip than females. Catnip is a mild hallucinogen, and if the cat consumes too much, it will induce vomiting. With safety in mind, catnip can be a lot of fun for the cat and help them become more active. |
